13 years, its passed by so fast! 13 years when two young kids decided to give each other a chance even though the timing was so wrong. There was something special that made the risk worth taking. In the end, it took possibly an act of divine intervention in the form of a broken down bus to give us one last chance. God knew what we only had a small sense of in that moment, that we would be better together!
A small omission of interest reciprocated, a promise to not let things get too serious. A crush turned to love in a matter of weeks. We were two young kids that knew this was the real deal. There were never enough hours in the day to fulfill the amount of time we wanted together. We learned so much about each other in such a short amount of time. Deep discussions about our life together and a desire for marriage as the summer olympics played in the background. Two young kids, barely 18 years old, the world would think we were crazy, but we just knew what we knew. This was real.
The end of summer, a day of promises made on the beach as Peter left me for college. The hours ticking by when all we wanted was to stop time. Very tear filled goodbye. The months apart were indescribably hard to handle. Night upon night of falling asleep with the phone pressed to my ear.
I fondly remember our early days together and that intense desire to spend every second of every day together. Things haven't changed all that much over the years, we've matured a bit but still long to be together as much as possible. I remember wishing I could be Peter Keyser's girlfriend and it felt too good to be true when he actually confessed similar feelings. Dreams turned into hopes of wedding bells, then children. I never, even in my wildest dreams would have anticipated a life this rich with blessing. Our life together has certainly been better than it would have been apart. I'm so glad he confessed that he was "interested" and I am so glad we took that first step in our relationship. There's something amazing about finding each other at such a young age and sharing so much of our lives together! 13 years, it's still just the beginning of our journey through life together, We've lived our life in the fast lane, but I wouldn't want it any other way!
